| Who we are
Family Planning Association of Moldova (FPAM) is a non governmental, voluntary and non for profit organization founded in 1993. It was established by a group of gynecologists who aimed to improve the situation of sexual and reproductive health and rights in the Republic of Moldova. It became the associate member of the International Planned Parenthood Federation European Network (IPPF EN) www.ippfen.org in 1996.
At the present FPAM is an organization consisting of approximately 200 volunteer members with a diversity of background and skills. The organization is governed by an Administrative Council, democratically elected by all volunteer members of the organization. It consists of 7 members, elected by the Annual General Meeting of FPAM every three years.
Our Vision
FPAM envisions a stable society with a healthy population, where every person makes free, informed and responsible choices in respect of sexual and reproductive health has equal access to appropriate services, and where children are wanted and gender equity and human rights, including sexual and reproductive rights, are observed and protected.
Our Values
FPAM believes in a healthy family living in a healthy society based on gender equity. FPAM considers sexual and reproductive health a significant, inalienable value in achieving individual and social well-being.
FPAM promotes and contributes to equal access and informed choices in the field of sexual and reproductive health to all the people, especially vulnerable, socially excluded and poor layers of the society.
Our Mission
FPAM is a non-profit making voluntary organization aiming to grow country-wide that works for the improvement of the sexual and reproductive health and wellbeing of every individual and family by:
- advocating improved family planning and reproductive health legislation and policies, and their implementation;
- raising awareness among the population in respect of sexual and reproductive health and rights, especially in respect of HIV/AIDS and other sexually transmittable infections, safe abortion and the use of contraceptives, and
- promotion and providing equal access to sexual and reproductive rights, quality information, affordable services and supplies and sexuality education, in particular for young people and vulnerable groups.
In all its work FPAM strives to include young people, vulnerable people and observe gender equity, and to foster collaborative partnerships to advance sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) everywhere in Moldova.
Programmes and Our strategic goals for the years 2005-2009
FPAM’s Strategic Plan and Programme themes are focused on the 5 A’s: Adolescents/Youth, HIV/AIDS, Access, Abortion, Advocacy. These are in accordance with IPPF www.ippf.org strategic framework for 2004-2008.
FPAM is committed to ensuring that:
- Young people in Moldova fully enjoy SRHR and are empowered to make informed choices and decisions regarding their sexual and reproductive health.
- The incidence of HIV/AIDS, STIs is reduced and the rights of people infected and affected by HIV/AIDS are respected and they have access to care and treatment without discrimination and stigma.
- All the women have the right and access to safe abortion and the number of unplanned pregnancies and abortions is reduced.
- All people, in particular socially vulnerable people, have access to quality information and services on SRHR, are aware of and benefit from their right to make informed choices.
- Improved laws and policies on SRH&R are in place and implemented and they are supported by financial commitment from government bodies and other relevant actors.
